UWC Atlantic student Aman

Aman

Meet Aman from Nepal, who is soon to graduate from our innovative programme, the Systems Transformation Pathway: Leadership for Just Futures which has been developed in partnership with the International Baccalaureate.

Coming from a small village with limited access to education, I never imagined studying abroad. But thanks to the Davis-UWC Dare to Dream Programme and Pestalozzi International Foundation, I’ve experienced incredible personal growth and gained opportunities I once thought were far out of reach.

Before UWC Atlantic, I had never left my country. Now, I’ve traveled to different parts of the world and met people who share my passion for making a difference. One of the most inspiring experiences was attending the Villars Symposium in Switzerland, where I learned from global leaders about achieving a net-zero world. I also took part in a summer school at Yale University, where I studied Economics, Political Science, and Law—subjects I never had the chance to explore back home.

At AC, I’ve pushed myself in ways I never imagined. I climbed Y Wyddfa (Snowdon), the highest mountain in Wales, and joined Atlantic Pacific, where I trained in sea rescue—despite not knowing how to swim before I arrived. These challenges helped me grow more confident and resilient. I also co-organised AC’s first student-led conference, OceanCon, which brought students together to tackle urgent ocean-related issues.

One of my proudest achievements was using a “Go Make a Difference” grant to bring clean, safe water to my village. With support from my community, we installed water pumps that now serve over 500 people. It was incredibly rewarding to give back, and the experience showed me just how powerful collaboration can be.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue my education in the U.S. I’ll be pursuing a double major in Economics and Political Science at Northwestern University. My time at Yale gave me a glimpse of what academic life in the U.S. is like—and I’m ready for what’s next.

I’m deeply grateful for the support I’ve received. Without the scholarships and foundations that believed in me, I wouldn’t have come this far. Now, I want to give back—whether by supporting education for others or helping my community grow.

My story is just one example of how scholarships can change lives. They open doors, inspire new dreams, and empower students like me to make a meaningful difference in the world.
