Student Day

We offer life-defining experiences for young people, enabling them to discover the possibility of change through courageous action, personal example and selfless leadership.

Lessons or codes start each morning at 0800 and finish at 1310. That’s not optional. As part of our holistic curriculum, you are expected to undertake a minimum of 2 hours of community service, 2 hours of physical activity and a further 2 hours of creative activity each week. These sessions take place in the afternoons, evenings and weekends.

With a lot going on, you need to be disciplined with your time management and know where you need to be and when.

Every Monday afternoon there is a tutorial with your personal tutor followed by assembly or another community gathering, where attendance is mandatory.

From Sunday to Thursday check in at your Houses is 2130. On Fridays and Saturdays this is extended to 2300.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served in the Dining Hall, a very sociable area where both students and alumni hold many fond memories.

Attendance in all aspects of College life is compulsory. You are expected to attend all sessions, including academic, tutorials and co-curricular, and to keep good time keeping habits. This requires self-management and the balancing of deadlines.

The College places a great deal of emphasis on independence and maturity. A responsible attitude by students to their studies and lives here is seen as a key factor in becoming authentic UWC citizens.

Listen to Kendra a second year student talk about her typical day.
