UWC ATLANTIC RANKED 13TH IN PRESTIGIOUS TATLER GOOD SCHOOLS GUIDE 2027
Renowned coastal college in Wales celebrated for its transformative global education, royal connections and pioneering systems-change curriculum.
UWC Atlantic has once again been featured among the UK’s top independent institutions in the Tatler Schools Guide 2027, recognised for its progressive approach to international education, historic setting, and academic innovation.
Set within 12th-century St Donat’s Castle, the international boarding school is increasingly popular among young European royals, international scholars, and families seeking a genuinely global perspective. The college’s 360+ pupils represent a vibrant community hailing from 90 different countries. High-profile recent alumni include Princess Leonor, future Queen of Spain, and Princess Alexia of the Netherlands, who followed in the footsteps of her father, King Willem-Alexander.
The primary draw for families worldwide is the opportunity for students to build lifelong cross-cultural friendships and prepare for global institutions. Inclusivity remains central to the college's mission: 46% of the current student body receives financial assistance, ensuring that talent and potential, rather than background, define the campus community.
Alongside its traditional offerings, UWC Atlantic pioneered a unique International Baccalaureate curriculum called the Systems Transformation Pathway (STP). Developed in partnership with the IB, the pathway empowers students to explore, analyse, and reshape the systems driving modern climate and ecological crises. First piloted at UWC Atlantic in 2023, the IB has confirmed the programme will expand to all IB schools worldwide from 2030. Graduates from the inaugural STP cohort have already secured offers from top global universities, including Brown, Columbia, and Stanford.
Independent research conducted by the University of Cambridge praised the programme as "a significant and timely contribution to global education," noting a marked increase in student confidence and engagement with learning.
Capturing the essence of life at the castle, one parent noted:
"One of the school's greatest strengths is the unique sense of community that comes from living and learning alongside friends from around the world and from different classes. There's a special kind of magic in that shared experience, the late-night conversations and listening to music in the corridors, the collaboration, the constant exchange of ideas and perspectives, and the fun."
