Timo is a Loran scholar 2026

STP student Timo is named 2026 Loran Scholar.

UWC Atlantic is proud to announce that Timo Joubert has been named a 2026 Loran Scholar, one of Canada’s most prestigious undergraduate awards recognising values-driven youth committed to making a meaningful difference in the world.

Originally from Montreal, Canada, Timo joined UWC Atlantic in 2024 through the support of a generous donor-funded scholarship. During his time at the College, he has distinguished himself through his academic focus, student  leadership and commitment to community impact.

Deeply passionate about ecology, with a particular interest in environmental and social innovation, Timo pursued the Systems Transformation Pathway (STP) at UWC Atlantic, focusing on the Food impact area. His work centres on improving food security by connecting local producers with community meal services, reflecting his dedication to sustainable and community-driven solutions.

Beyond the classroom, Timo is an active and engaged member of student life. He co-leads an A cappella group that performs at community events and serves as a student representative on the College’s disciplinary board. In his personal time, he enjoys playing the guitar and piano and has achieved a black belt in karate.

The Loran Scholars Foundation selected just 36 exceptional students each year, and this year chose just 36 from more than 5,400 applicants. These scholars are recognised not only for their academic achievements but for their character, leadership and commitment to service. As graduating high school and Cégep students, the 2026 recipients exemplify a values-driven approach to leadership and a strong dedication to uplifting their communities.

Reflecting on the honour, Timo shared:

“For me, being a Loran Scholar represents a tremendous opportunity to pursue my passion for the environment and economics, surrounded by a community that shares the same determination and values. I’m really looking forward to all the opportunities Loran will offer me to keep pushing myself, particularly meeting my mentor and taking part in the summer internships.”

The Loran Award provides scholars with a comprehensive four-year leadership-enrichment program, including tuition waivers at one of 25 university partners, financial support, mentorship  and access to a network of like-minded peers. More than an undergraduate award, it offers a lifelong community committed to growth, purpose and positive impact.

UWC Atlantic congratulates Timo on this outstanding achievement and looks forward to seeing the continued impact of his work.
