Our Royal Patron: A new chapter in our shared history

His Majesty King Charles III Royal Patron for UWC Atlantic College
In May 2024, UWC Atlantic was deeply honoured when His Majesty King Charles III accepted the Patronage of our College. This announcement, marking the first anniversary of the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla, followed a review of the organisations previously supported by the late Queen Elizabeth II.
For us at St Donat’s Castle, this is more than a formal title; it is a continuation of a story that lives within our walls.
"The acceptance of this Patronage by His Majesty King Charles III is a profound moment for our community. At UWC Atlantic, we believe that education must be a bridge to a more peaceful and sustainable future, a vision His Majesty has championed throughout his life. Having his support emboldens our students as they strive to become the compassionate, courageous leaders our world so urgently needs. We are deeply grateful to continue this journey with His Majesty by our side, rooted in our shared belief in the limitless potential of young people."
We know King Charles is dedicated to empowering the next generation to build a more sustainable and peaceful future. His Majesty’s commitment gives us added momentum as we challenge our students to fulfil their potential and lead with purpose.”
A Proud Legacy at St Donat’s
Our connection to the Crown is woven into the very fabric of UWC Atlantic. For decades, we were graced by the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her life of dedicated service served as a constant inspiration to our students, who come from over 90 different countries to learn the value of international understanding.
We fondly remember the interest Her Majesty and the late Duke of Edinburgh took in our mission, a mission that began here in Wales as the founding college of the UWC movement.
Looking Forward
King Charles III has long been a champion of the environment, youth leadership, and global bridge-building, values that sit at the heart of the UWC mission. As we look to the future, His Majesty’s patronage reinforces our commitment to:
Empowering global change-makers through our unique educational model.
Fostering peace and sustainability in an increasingly complex world.
Honouring our heritage while innovating for the students of tomorrow.
It is a great privilege to have His Majesty’s support as we continue to prove that education can be a force to unite people, nations and cultures.
