Connecting Worlds: Schwarzman Scholar Tage on Business, Geopolitics and the Green Transition

Growing up in Norway and living across multiple countries like China and Peru, Tage’s journey has been shaped by a curiosity about the world and a desire to understand it more deeply. Now completing his degree at Copenhagen Business School, he is preparing for his next chapter as a newly selected Schwarzman Scholar at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Tage (AC'21) came to UWC Atlantic looking for a new challenge. What he found was an experience that would fundamentally shape how he sees the world. Reflecting on his time there, he recognises how formative those years were, both academically and in the way they broadened his perspective and deepened his sense of connection to global issues.

Since leaving UWC Atlantic, Tage has focused his efforts on supporting Europe’s green transition, working at the intersection of geopolitics and business to help bridge commercial ties with China in areas where collaboration remains necessary. It is a complex and often sensitive space, but one he sees as critical to addressing global challenges.

Along the way, he has gained experience across a range of professional environments and taken on ambitious projects. Among the achievements he is most proud of is leading a collaboration between a Harvard PhD researcher and a Chinese battery technology firm, resulting in an article currently being developed for the Harvard Business Review.

His selection as a Schwarzman Scholar marks a significant milestone in this journey. The programme brings together emerging leaders from around the world for a fully funded master’s degree focused on global affairs, leadership and China.

For Tage, the opportunity represents both recognition and responsibility. “Schwarzman felt like a critical next step in being able to execute my goal,” he explains. “I hope to learn from the people and institutions involved in these sorts of decisions.”

As he prepares to begin the programme, he is focused on making the most of the experience, deepening his understanding of global cooperation and positioning himself to contribute meaningfully to Europe’s green transition in an increasingly interconnected world.

“Being selected is a real honour,” he reflects, “and I’m eager to make the most of it.”

The experience at UWC Atlantic gave me a richer frame for understanding the world, and a sense that things happening far away are genuinely tangible and personal, not just abstract news.
