Learn about our Admissions process
The UWC movement seeks outstanding students who want to become changemakers for a better world, regardless of their socio-economic, religious, national, ethnic or cultural background. Joining UWC Atlantic, or any other UWC school or college will be life-affirming and life-changing. It is important for you to make sure it’s the right choice for you.
At UWC we have a different way of doing things, on lots of levels! One of those being selections and admissions. Unlike other schools and colleges, applications do not come to the College directly, instead there are two different routes for prospective students.
Route One:
You can apply through the UWC National Committee in your country of residence or citizenship. Applications usually open in July, depending on each country.
This route may offer the chance for you to receive scholarship for your UWC experience, ensuring socio-economic diversity on all UWC campuses.
More than 65% of national committee-selected students accept either a full or partial scholarship towards their UWC education. If your application is successful, national committees will carry out a financial means assessment to determine a scholarship based on your needs to ensure you’re able to benefit from a UWC education.
Route Two:
You can apply through the Global Selection Programme (GSP). The GSP is an application route designed for candidates who wish to forgo financial assistance. We have a limited number of places at some UWCs colleges. Please visit the website to find more information: https://apply.uwc.org
Whatever entry route you take; you can only make one application to UWC per year. If you still meet the age requirements, you may be able to make a second application the following year. Applications for this route will open on September 4th, 2023.
Applications for Entry 2024 will start in August, depending on the route you have chosen.
Basic requirements for applying to our 2-year programme:
- students must be born between 2 Sep 2005 and 31 Oct 2008 (entry 2024)
- students can only apply via one route (National Committee or Global Selection Programme)
- students need to demonstrate age-appropriate qualities and skills that will enable them to thrive in our learning programme. These include a positive approach to learning, an academic profile that indicates the applicant can progress with confidence in the IB Diploma programme, a positive and collaborative behaviour and social interactions with peers, an active engagement in activities and extracurricular interests, in relation to opportunities available in the student’s current context.
Fees and Scholarships:
Everyone has the right to a quality education, that’s why we strive to offer one of the most comprehensive scholarship programmes in the world.
If you are interested in attending a UWC school, you should apply regardless of your financial circumstances: many of the students selected by our national committees are awarded full or partial scholarships. National committees will carry our a means-test to determine the level of financial help needed.

UWC depends on the dedication and expertise of a network of more than 3,000 volunteers to find and select students in more than 155 countries worldwide.
A wide variety of individuals make up UWC national committees, including:
- UWC alumni
- Parents of alumni
- Education professionals, and
- Community leaders who have embraced UWC’s mission and values.
Our volunteers serving on national committees exist to:
- Promote UWC to prospective students and parents
- Encourage and support applications
- Select UWC scholars and prepare them for their UWC experience.
Our committees operate in vastly different contexts and circumstances and are uniquely situated to seek out the most promising and diverse students in each country, making them one of the standout features of the UWC movement.
Find and connect with your national committee and you can see our worldwide Application Deadlines.
We are deeply grateful to all our national committees and to volunteers throughout the world who enable the UWC selection to happen.

The UWC Global Selection Programme is an application route for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) for a limited number of places at some UWCs. Currently you can apply to UWC Atlantic via the Global Selection Programme.
This is the route if you:
- Do not need a scholarship or other financial aid to attend UWC
- Are looking to attend a specific UWC school or college
- Have a strong affinity and sympathy for the UWC mission
- Are looking for a challenging personal and academic two-year programme
Applicants to the Global Selection Programme will be assessed against UWC’s core selection criteria. The Global Selection Programme is coordinated by UWC International in close cooperation with UWC schools, colleges and the UWC national committees. Selections are carried out by experienced UWC selection volunteers.
Please note that a candidate may only submit one application per year to study the IB Diploma Programme at UWC. You may not apply through two different UWC national committees or through a UWC national committee and the UWC Global Selection Programme concurrently.

A UWC education is not an end in itself, but is designed to inspire and equip students with the skills they need to seek personal and communal fulfillment, to be mindful of the needs of others, and to become activists for a more peaceful and sustainable world.
